Similar to her teammate TNT Lister, who is only the ninth woman to play for the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters, Swish Sutton joined the roster following a standout college career at the University of South Carolina playing for Naismith Hall of Fame coach Dawn Staley. Under the direction of the three-time Olympic gold medalist and WNBA All-Star, the now Globetrotters rookie led South Carolina to an appearance in the 2012 NCAA women’s tournament where the team advanced to the Sweet 16.
At South Carolina, Sutton accumulated nearly 1,300 career points and 350-plus assists. The 5-7 guard scored double figures in more than half of her appearances, earned All-SEC honors and was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team.
Prior to joining the Globetrotters, Sutton played professionally overseas in Taiwan, Finland, Ecuador, Germany, and Bulgaria from 2013-2016.
Sutton joined her first basketball team in the fourth grade where she played on an all-boys team. In high school, the McDonalds All American nominee led her team to back-to-back state championships (2007, 2008) and was named the MVP of the 2008 New Jersey State Championship. She set the Trenton Catholic Academy (N.J.) school record for most points in a single game with 36. Just 10 points shy of scoring 2,000 points, Sutton was the 2008 Gatorade Player of the Year. She was also named Trentonian Player of the Year, was a four-time all-Burlington county first-team selection and twice earned All-State honors from the Associated Press.
Sutton is an active member of the community in Trenton, N.J., where she works with local youth and teaches them leadership, entrepreneurship and social skills. Sutton has developed her own scholarship fund and digital internship program “Fan Favorite University” to help prepare middle and high school students for success on and off the court. The Globetrotters star is a published author, earned her degree in Broadcast Communications and can speak Spanish.
Following her professional basketball career, Sutton would like to become a motivational speaker and life coach.
