For over a decade, Alex “Moose” Weekes has brought his huge personality, wild antics, and incredible dunking skills to the team, all while sporting one of the best afros in pro-sports.
His dream started when his mom, a single parent who also played basketball, instilled a love for the game in her son. “In third grade, I remember building a basketball goal with some of my friends. We took a wooden board, nailed it to a tree, cut out the bottom of a plastic crate, then nailed the crate to the board. We raked the ground, sprayed it with water, then stomped the dirt to pack it in, and we had a basketball court,” he says.
As a veteran Globetrotter, Moose has traveled all across the world! His travels have connected him to many different cultures, history, and (Moose’s personal favorite!) food. Known by his teammates as “the food connoisseur”, Moose enjoys trying different foods and finding the best that the city has to offer! Whether it be admiring the amazing architecture of Singapore, taking in the lush and beautiful scenery of Auckland, or learning about the history in Paris, Moose loves to immerse himself in the culture wherever he is.
When he’s not on tour, Moose enjoys writing his own songs, singing, and spending time with his family, especially his daughter. Moose admires his grandfather and considers him to be his personal hero for setting an excellent example and being a role model for him. He hopes to continue that cycle of setting great examples for those around him. Whether it's through the basketball camps he runs for children in U.S. military families in Germany or speaking to youth groups to inspire kids to follow their dreams, he spreads goodwill on and off the court.
Moose and his fabulous hair have graced television screens with appearances on NBC’s TODAY, Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Disney’s Dog with a Blog, ABC’s The Goldbergs, Food Network’s Trisha’s Southern Kitchen, HBO’s Vice, Nickelodeon’s Mutt & Stuff, ABC’s Good Morning America, The Weather Channel, NBA TV’s The Starters, and Gametime.
