This year, the Harlem Globetrotters joined forces once again with Jersey Mike's Subs to redefine greatness beyond the basketball court. The Great Assist Tour is a celebration of community members who exemplify leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment in their local communities. From students overcoming tremendous obstacles to educators going the extra mile, each recipient of the Great Assist Award is recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities.

One such recipient is Mathias Munante of Anne Frank Elementary. Mathias is a resilient young student who battled and beat brain cancer. After being diagnosed in his home country, Venezuela, he and his family traveled to Dallas, Texas in search of better medical care. Despite facing numerous challenges, Mathias continued to support his classmates and engage in school activities, showcasing his unwavering determination and spirit. Today Mathias has beat brain cancer and continues in remission!

Another honoree is Kaitlyn Wagner, a social worker whose dedication to fostering a positive school culture and supporting students has earned her the admiration of students, teachers, and parents alike at El Mirage Elementary in El Mirage, AZ. Ms. Wagner is dedicated to being a "champion against bullying" and dedicates each day to teaching students communication and conflict-resolution skills.

Tallahassee Iongi, a compassionate student known for her kindness and willingness to help others, also receives recognition for her invaluable contributions to her school's community at Stansbury Elementary in West Valley, UT. Tallahassee doesn't just tackle problems head-on; she's also committed to being there for her classmates as part of our school's Hope Squad, offering support to anyone going through tough times or just in need of a friend.

Scarlet Pressley-Brown has been pivotal as an Educational Resource Partner in Mableton, GA. Leading Community Affairs at HD Supply, her initiative in supporting City View Elementary has resulted in vital contributions, including classroom supplies, teacher bags, recess equipment, and a significant monetary donation. Her commitment to enhancing educational opportunities exemplifies the spirit of the Great Assist initiative.

Officer Maria Bryant, a school safety and resource officer at Bailey Elementary in Dover, FL was recognized for her unwavering dedication, as she consistently demonstrates outstanding character and integrity. Serving as a positive role model for students, Officer Bryant consistently goes the extra mile to support their success, making her an invaluable member of the Bailey Bull Family.

These individuals represent the essence of the Great Assist initiative, demonstrating the power of collaboration and compassion in creating positive change within their communities.

As the Harlem Globetrotters continue their 2024 World Tour Presented By Jersey Mike’s Subs, they carry with them the spirit of teamwork and empowerment, inspiring others to pursue greatness both on and off the court. Through the Globetrotters’ Goodwill Ambassador Initiative, they aim to drive change and impact in crucial areas such as health and wellness, education, and community empowerment.

The Great Assist Tour isn't just about basketball—it's about recognizing and celebrating the everyday heroes who make a difference by giving “great assists” to others. By shining a spotlight on these remarkable individuals, the Harlem Globetrotters and Jersey Mike's Subs remind us that greatness is not only defined by individual accomplishments but by the collective efforts of a community working together towards a common goal.
