On June 21, 2021, we wrote an open letter to the NBA requesting a team. We have, yet, to hear from the commissioner. We need your help getting a franchise. God willing, the words below will help you understand why we deserve an NBA franchise. In the meantime, we'll continue to spread love and spread game.
Spread Game is what the Harlem Globetrotters do best.
They might have even created it.
The world's oldest hoop squad has been showing off
Basketball pizazz while bringing
Showmanship to this game for 95 years.
Yeah, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they invented it...
If not, perfected it.
They taught Black excellence with the rock.
Innovations that taught us the jump shot.
Them other cats weren't shooting like that.
And don't even let me get started with the dunk.
All of NBA is playing like the Harlem Globetrotters
Were playing close to a century ago.
The funny thing about spreading game is,
It is so much more than half-court shots.
It delves deeper than the between-the-legs,
Behind-the-back dribble or the no-look pass.
It could be the tiniest speck of light, laughter and love
That looms during those dark and hateful days.
It could be a smile that a Globetrotter gives during a play
That extends to your family when you go home.
Its arms reach your friends when you go to school.
Even touches your co-workers when you go to work.
The Harlem Globetrotters were more than superior athletes,
They were gentlemen.
They played second fiddle to the man off the court,
But, while on the court, they were the full band.
Couldn't eat at the same places,
Couldn't sleep anywhere cause the world was racist,
Yet, they tied up their shoelaces and would be the main attraction
For all the white faces at the hottest court in town.
They were gentlemen, I tell you,
Proud Black men who...
Right now, we need to do some spreading ourselves.
The world is in a state of confusion.
For longer than we can remember,
The Harlem Globetrotters have been
Multiplying the undeniable thirst of basketball,
Advancing the ever-changing culture,
Growing legacy and making people smile.
It is as natural to a Globetrotter as a laugh.
As common as a hug.
And as refreshing as a tall glass of red sweetwater on a hot summer day.
We need this.
We need heaven on earth. We need ice cream with the sprinkles.
We need to laugh so hard our stomachs hurt.
That's the energy only The Harlem Globetrotters can unfold.
