"TODAY" Welcomes Globetrotters

Harlem Globetrotters stars Big Easy Lofton, Dizzy Grant, and TNT Maddox were on NBC-TV's "TODAY" on Oct. 9.

The players talked about the Globetrotters' upcoming 2013 "You Write the Rules" World Tour and the team's tour-long campaign to promote breast cancer awareness.

"TODAY" correspondent Sara Haines also showed some exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from her visit to the Globetrotters' training camp in September.  CLICK HERE to see all the fun.

The appearance on "TODAY" came on the heels of the Globetrotters' historic game before a crowd of 15,000-plus on Oct. 7 at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. – becoming the first family entertainment event in the new arena.

In the third quarter, the Globetrotters unveiled specially-made pink uniforms from Russell Athletic and played part of the quarter with specially-designed pink Spalding basketballs to signify their tour-long campaign to promote breast cancer awareness.  The pink basketballs will be used during portions of games throughout the Globetrotters' North American Tour, to promote breast cancer awareness.  CLICK HERE to check out some of the action from the show on the Globetrotters' YouTube page.

The game was the official tip-off of the team's 2013 "You Write the Rules" World Tour, with the fans voting online before the game for rules they wanted implemented - such as playing with two basketballs at once.  This unprecedented fan participation will continue throughout the North American portion of the tour.  Fans will have the opportunity to vote at harlemglobetrotters.com for which ground-breaking rule they want to see implemented in the game, purchase tickets, and then see the winning rules in live action at the Globetrotters’ world championship game.  The North American leg of the tour will recommence on Dec. 26, 2012, as the team will play over 270 games in nearly 240 cities in 45 states and nine Canadian provinces though April 2013.
