Olympic History in 2012: Globetrotting Mascots

The 2012 London Summer Olympic Games begin today with the opening ceremonies.

In all the excitement surrounding the games, and especially basketball with the 2012 Dream Team, the Harlem Globetrotters mascots have felt, well, a bit left out. You see, while they are excited for the games to begin, the mascots were hoping they too could have their chance to compete for a gold medal.  Year after year, Globie and Big G travel across the country with the Harlem Globetrotters entertaining millions along the way.  It's no easy task, but one that often gets overlooked.

This year, the Harlem Globetrotters mascots were hoping to represent the Red, White and Blue in the world's first ever "Halftime Show" event competing against the greatest mascots from around the world.  They even tried on Team USA's opening ceremony outfit (pictured above).  Unfortunately, their proposal to the Olympic Committee to include a "Halftime Show" event came too late, but with the help of mascots in the future, there's no reason to think the 2014 Winter Olympics are out of the question.  While our mascots won't be competing in this years' Olympic Games, the entire Harlem Globetrotters organization- all the way down to Globie and Big G- want to wish all the athletes competing in this years' games the best of luck.  And to all the mascots out there, it's time to unite and get ready for 2014!
