“Ambassadors of Goodwill” perform in Afghanistan for the first time ever on their eleventh Holiday Military Tour
As part of their 11th Holiday Military Tour - entertaining U.S. troops overseas - the world famous Harlem Globetrotters just made history by playing for the first time ever in Afghanistan, marking 121 countries and territories in which the “Ambassadors of Goodwill”™ have now performed in their illustrious history.
Also for the first time ever, the Globetrotters paid tribute to the troops by wearing specially-designed camouflage uniforms from Russell Athletic, which they will do throughout the remainder of the Holiday Military Tour. In addition, for the fourth straight year, the tour features a specially-created camouflage Spalding basketball, in addition to the Globetrotters’ iconic red, white and blue basketball.
During the 10-game tour - made possible by Navy Entertainment and Armed Forces Entertainment - the Globetrotters have also played in Kuwait and will perform on U.S. military bases in Bahrain, Djibouti, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as on an active-duty U.S. aircraft carrier.
“While there is no way to fully express our admiration of the U.S. Armed Forces, it’s an incredible honor for our players to bring the troops a little piece of home, especially at this time of the year,” said Harlem Globetrotters CEO Kurt Schneider. “Without the sacrifices made daily by these brave men and women, the Harlem Globetrotters would not have the opportunity to bring joy to families all over the world.”
