Special K Returns to His Home Country of Panama

star Showman Special K Daley returned to his hometown of Panama City, Panama - the Panamanian capital - on Oct. 19, where he had an audience with the President of Panama, Ricardo Alberto Martinelli, and joined his teammates at the Panama CanalPresident Martinelli welcomed Special K to the Palacio de las Garzas - the equivalent of the White House - where Special K taught the President some signature Globetrotters ball handling wizardry.

For the first time in his career, Special K performed with the world’s most famous basketball team in his hometown on Oct. 20 at Gimnasio Roberto Duran.

Also during their time in Panama, Special K and his teammates toured the famous Panama Canal, and Special K visited his childhood neighborhood (Juan Diaz, Pedregalito), elementary school (Instituto Episcopal San Cristobal) and Colon, where he also spent part of his childhood.

Celebrating his sixth season as a Harlem Globetrotter, Special K has also played for the Panama National Team for the better part of the last decade – facing such NBA superstars as Dirk Nowitzki and Pau Gasol – including at the 2006 FIBA World Basketball Championship.  “When I’ve played with that ‘Panama’ across my chest, there is a great sense of pride,” says Special K.

Sponsored by Campbell Soup Company, Spalding, and America’s Best Contacts and Eyeglasses, the Original Harlem Globetrotters are in their 84th consecutive season of touring the world.  The Globetrotters have played in 120 countries on six continents, entertaining over 130 million fans and breaking down barriers between cultures, societies and people from all walks of life.  The Globetrotters are one of only six teams to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
