Chris "Flash" Richardson Passes Away

(PHOENIX , Dec. 10, 2008) – Harlem Globetrotter Chris “Flash” Richardson, 28, tragically passed away this morning in Sasebo, Japan during the team’s annual holiday tour of American military bases throughout Asia.  The actual cause of his death is not known at this time, but it is believed to be of natural causes.

“Chris was a wonderful young man who loved life and loved being a Globetrotter,” said Globetrotters CEO Kurt Schneider. “The entire Globetrotter family is heartbroken by his passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with his mother, Brenda, and his children.”

A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, the 6-7 Richardson was known for his exceptional dunking ability, one of the skills that helped earn him All-America honors at Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi and carried him through a successful college career at UNLV, where he helped lead the Runnin’ Rebels to a Mountain West Conference title and NCAA tournament berth in 2000.  Richardson made his home in Las Vegas.

In true Globetrotter fashion, he took pride in taking part in community activities, and was active with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs and adoption agencies.

Further details, including memorial service information, will be announced when they become available.
