TROTTERS ENTERTAIN U.S. TROOPS

Hi Rise Brown

The legendary Harlem Globetrotters are once again bringing the gift of laughter to U.S. troops stationed overseas during the holiday season.  The annual Holiday Military Tour began on Dec. 1 and runs through Dec. 16, with the team performing 12 shows on U.S. military bases in Asia.

Globetrotter fans can get an exciting, inside look at the tour with exclusive blogs from – fittingly – General GrantClick here to read General’s blog.

“It is amazing to see how an institution such as the Globetrotters can put smiles on the faces of real heroes solely by us wearing our red, white, and blue,” says Globetrotters star Flight Time Lang, who is on his fourth holiday military tour with the team.  “The joy we can bring by just spinning a ball on the finger definitely makes us realize how fortunate we are to be a part of the Globetrotter legacy.  Seeing the reactions of the soldiers really puts things in perspective for us.”

This marks the sixth consecutive year the Globetrotters have visited U.S. troops overseas during the holiday season, made possible by Navy Entertainment and Armed Forces Entertainment.

"We are excited that the Harlem Globetrotters are touring military bases overseas again this holiday season," said Karen Fritz, head of Special Events and Entertainment for Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation. "The Globetrotters always put on a tremendous show, and their continued support for our troops and their families serving far from home really makes a difference."

Sponsored by Campbell Soup Company, Spalding, and America’s Best Contacts and Eyeglasses, the Harlem Globetrotters will tip-off the North American leg of their 2009 “Spinning the Globe” World Tour in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Green Bay, Wis., on Friday, Dec. 26.  The 243-game tour runs until the final week of April 2009.  To find a Globetrotters' show near you, click here.
