Second Annual Summer S.P.I.N. Event cultivates an active lifestyle and makes fitness fun for kids

(PHOENIX, June 29, 2009) – The world famous Harlem Globetrotters held their second annual summer S.P.I.N.™ event on Monday, June 29, urging kids to be active all year long…and have fun doing it. 

Sooner forward and brother of #1 overall NBA Draft pick Blake Griffin heads list that includes college slam dunk champ Tony Danridge and acrobatic U.S./Premier League goalkeeper Tim Howard among athletes chosen to compete for a spot on the world’s most famous basketball team
 
The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters on June 22 selected University of Oklahoma senior forward Taylor Griffin as the top pick in the team’s third annual player draft, just days before his younger brother, and Sooners teammate, Blake Griffin became the number one overall selection of the NBA Draft.

The Harlem Globetrotters are featured in the new book, The 100 Sporting Events You Must See Live: An Insider's Guide to Creating the Sports Experience of a lifetime by Robert Tuchman.  The book ranks the top sporting events all over the world and provides the reader tips to enhance their experience and create the memory of a lifetime.  

As he runs down his list, Tuchman describes seeing a live Globetrotters performance.

A high school history project on Harlem Globetrotters founder Abe Saperstein was selected for a special presentation to the public at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, June 17, as part of the National History Day (NHD) competition.
