About Animal

Jackson , MS
Talladega College (Miss.) ‘12

Never back down from a challenge – this is the motto Chris “Animal” Hyche, one of the Harlem Globetrotters’ newest members, lives by. Growing up, the Globetrotters rookie idolized NBA legend Michael Jordan. From him, he learned that staying focused on a goal and never giving up could lead him to reaching his dream of playing professionally one day.

The 6-foot-5 Globetrotter was first introduced to basketball at age 9 and he has been playing the sport ever since. Hyche, who is originally from Jackson, Miss., attended Provine High School where he had a stellar career earning Dandy Dozen honors and becoming one of the top-150 players in the country.

He attended Talladega College where he averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds per game his senior year and later went on to play professionally in Mexico, Morocco, and Kosovo.

Animal, who is an avid runner, stays in shape by running three to four miles every day and eating healthy. One would never guess that this Globetrotter is fluent in American Sign Language, as both of his parents are hearing impaired. If he could pick up any skill, Animal says he’d love to learn to cook.
